There is something magical about Cyprus. The Mediterranean beaches in Cyprus are stunning, plus the ancient history is illuminating every rock, not to mention the reasonably priced property there. Winters are warm, and skiing is available. British influence and friendship have long been a part of the region, along with a rich Greek culture. For those who are retired, there is a strong network of sedentary pursuits as well as a great nightlife for the younger crowd.
The British are not the only ones who notice Cyprus' many advantages. In recent years, it has become increasingly popular with house hunters as a global vacation destination located at the crossroads of East and West. Further, Cyprus is not just an attractive destination for tourists — it is also an attractive location for businesses and investors. Flying there is likely to be on a plane founded by easyJet founder Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou. Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou, Peter Andre, or Theo Paphitis come to mind. There are just 800,000 people in the country, so it's not too bad.
A rocky mountain range and oak, pine, and cypress forests surround the Troodos Mountains in the southern part of Cyprus. For British buyers, Paphos and the surrounding villages have traditionally been the most popular areas. Young families as well as retirees are drawn to Paphos, which has been growing rapidly in recent years. Direct flights to the UK are available year-round from its airport.
Limassol has been attracting international buyers with its superb new marina, which is the country's second largest city (after Nicosia). The far south-east also has Ayia Napa, once synonymous with youngsters' holiday excesses but now considerably more serene.
